I was doing some research today about the old Benchmade 4X series of balisongs and I discovered that there aren’t many pictures available of the Benchmade 4X models. I had our photographer put this together for all of you who are interested.

Today on their Facebook page Benchmade announced their newest balisong model: the Benchmade 62.
Not much is known about this knife yet. Supposedly it’s made form stainless steel and should be roughly the same size as the old Benchmade 42. From the pictures it’s clear that it’s sandwich construction and retains the zen pins from the 42 design. No word on the actual specifications at this point, but as soon as more info is available we’ll post it here.
Ahoy Benchmade 42 fans! Any serious Benchmade fan knows that Benchmade makes some outstanding custom knife caliber “Gold Class” models. These “Gold Class” series knives are often upgraded versions of some of their more popular models. The Benchmade 51 got a gold class upgrade and now the time has finally come for the Benchmade 42 to get the gold class treatment!
Behold: The Benchmade Gold Class 42! The knife is due out later this month and product is limited to only 100 pieces. Here’s some info about this amazing knife:

The handles are latchless with blended anodized titanium backspacers. The 42-101 includes a custom Ted Blocker leather and ray skin dual position half sheath. This is a limited run of 100 knives from Benchmade.

Forums are abuzz about this knife for several reasons. Instead of being a channel butterfly knife it’s a sandwich style model. And of course the omission of a latch leaves the fans of the 42′s incredible spring latch a little disheartened. The beautiful Damascus blade and handles is a siren song to many, but a turn off for others (the word “overkill” has been tossed around). Some love the colored spacer and it provokes rebellion and thoughts of suicide in others (people take this knife very seriously). Love it or hate it, it’s a departure from the classic 42 design. However, after speaking with several of our sorces we’ve confirmed that at least a few shops are already sold out of their allotments! These knives, like most Benchmade gold class products, will probably have a place in many butterfly knife collections ans the undisputed centerpiece.
UPDATE! July 6, 2011, 1:40pm. And just like that they were gone. Were they really ever there? Only those who saw them “in stock” or bought one can say for certain. Hopefully the 42′s will make another appearance soon. We’ll be watching.
July 6, 2011, 11:00am. Much like Sasquatch, the Loch Ness Monster and Elvis the Benchmade 42 makes appearances in strange places and the media is often abuzz about “sightings.” We are pleased to report that we have a confirmed sighting at BladeHQ. At approximately 11:00am a handful of 42 Balisongs were seen on BladeHQ’s shelves and website. Here is a link to their last known location: Benchmade 42. As of this publication the knives are available and listed as “in stock” at BladeHQ.
It’s finally here! We all remember the Benchmade 42 (praise it’s titanium frame and unearthly beauty), but what we have is the 51. And the 51 balisong is a great butterfly knife by any measure. And the 51 just got a little bit sexier. Fans have long requested a black bladed model 51. And BladeHQ has it, in stock, now.
The specs are the same as the regular 51 balisong except that now there’s a BK1 coated black blade. These items are produced in limited production runs and are sure to be a popular addition to the 51 franchise. Check out this incredible knife today: Benchmade 51BK.
March 2011: Update! Benchmade has just announced that later this month they will release some Balisong-42 knives into the wold. Most dealers are expected to get one or two of these fantastic knives. Expect street prices to close to (or possibly even above) retail!
